Lodge Chair in Bright Blue

Looking for a slightly different style? Try our Lodge Chairs.

A Lodge Chair is...

This "cottage" chair, based on an antique chair design from Ontario, is by some reports, even more comfortable than our Westport Chair. Like the Westport and the Adirondack, this chair is perfect for outdoor use (although you certainly can use them indoors). They complement gardens, porches, balconies, docks... you choose.

The circular back offers a sense of depth and creativity. The arms curve slightly more than in the Westport, without losing any of the room where you might need it for your cool drink or summer book.

About the Woods We Use

  • White Pine is historically correct in accordance with the early construction of Westport Chairs
  • White Pine paints easily
  • White pine works well with the Westport Chair because the design of the chair allows water to run off of it. There is no place where water sits and where damage could develop.
  • There are no exposed, visible screwheads in the chair. Many chair designs have exposed screwheads where water can settle and run down the screw, rotting the wood.
  • We use a wood sealant on the board edges to prevent the edges from cracking.
  • We paint all sides of every piece of wood before the chair is assembled, helping to further protect the wood.
  • We use top quality, clear, knot-free Pine.
  • There is a natural preservative oil in Cypress known as cypressene, which gives the heartwood resistance to insects and decay.
  • Cypress grows slowly. The growth rings are close together, making it a very hard and dense wood. It shrinks less than other wood and resists the elements well.
  • If left outdoors in its natural state the wood will weather well.
  • There are no exposed, visible screwheads in the chair. Many chair designs have exposed screwheads where water can settle and run down the screw, rotting the wood.
  • There are very few knots in cypress and no sap, so the wood will not "bleed". It is therefore very nice wood for paint or stain.
